about my process
I love making portraits of the people in my life. My goal is realism: I want my subject’s character to jump out. I first take time to nail down my subject’s overall proportions. Then I look closer and fine-tune the details. Something that seems so small, a curved line of the lip or a pronounced shadow under the nasal bone can be what brings out someone’s essence. The care I put into my portraits makes it a deeply intimate process for me.
I find much overlap between my portrait and design process. Whether it be a website revamp or an app design, I begin by understanding people’s concerns and how the product fits into their day-to-day routines. Once I have big-picture solutions, I can zoom in to see how the experience can be improved. At its core design is understanding others, which I find innately human.
